Kayle, the Righteous, is one of the oldest champions in League of Legends. She is a versatile fighter who, besides offensive spells, has a plethora of defensive and supportive effects. Over time, there have been several iterations of the champion, each with a unique visual appearance.

Key Info Up Front

The great thing about Kayle is that she gives designers a lot of room for experimenting and creativity. The champion’s appearance changes with levels, which means you can do some really cool things with the model. There is a total of 13 skins for the champion if we don’t consider all the obsolete skins.

Original Kayle

Skin Lore

Kayle shows loyalty to her mother by serving the forces of light. For the longest time, she and her sister Morgana protected the people of Demacia. Growing weary of humankind’s failings, Kayle decided to abandon the realm and leave its inhabitants to their own devices. Despite everything, good folk still share tales of her exploits, hoping that Kayle will one day make her return.

Appearance and Model

Kayle has a solid gold full-body suit. She is completely armored and has several winged details on her armor. Her hips, shoulders, elbows, and wrists are protected with these intricate pieces. Despite her suit being almost completely yellow/gold, a part of the mid-section features a purple color.

The majority of her helmet is closed, protecting her face and head. You can only see her lips, glowing eyes, and nose. The Righteous has massive white wings and a gold/purple sword with a large hilt and blade.

Pros

  • Very nice armor.
  • I like the addition of the purple color.

Cons

  • I don’t really have any complaints; pretty good design for a base cosmetic.

Silver Kayle

Price: Retail purchase.

Skin Lore

You can only get this cosmetic if you bought a special League of Legends Collector’s Edition.

Appearance and Model

Besides this cosmetic, you also get Young Ryze, Goth Annie, and Black Alistar with Collector’s Edition.

As you can presume based on the name, Kayle is almost completely silver. The model utilizes purple, silver, and white color combinations. Her lower section is silver and purple, and she wears a white outfit. The Righteous has silver wrist guards with black gloves, a silver helmet with blue feathers on the top, and white wings with reinforced metallic silver/blue bones.

Overall, the cosmetic is very different from the base model. Her wings are especially awesome. Lastly, I have to mention the large silver blade with bits of purple.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Generally speaking, Silver Kayle’s visual effects are very similar to that of the base model. If there is a difference, it probably has to do with the sword’s glow (slightly more intense).

Animations

During the Recall spell, Kayle thrusts her sword into the ground, prays, and flies into the air.

Pros

  • Wings represent a massive upgrade compared to the default cosmetic.
  • Color combinations, for the most part, are really good.

Cons

  • The feathers on her helm look a bit funky.

Viridian Kayle

Elves live much longer compared to their human counterparts. This is why they have so much time to look for the last remnants of the empire’s magic. A few lucky ones, such as Kayle, are granted enormous power allowing them to protect the allies and punish foes.

Appearance and Model

The cosmetic is part of Albion set together with Sherwood Forest Ashe, Blackthorn Morgana, and Nottingham Ezreal. The cosmetic comes in pearl, citrine, aquamarine, rose quartz, and obsidian.

Kayle’s outfit utilizes various shades of green and some gold. The champion wears long brown boots with green leggings that get wider around the hips. Her armor is green and has various golden details. The Righteous has massive green/gold pauldrons and golden arm guards.

Kayle has a golden helmet curved backward. It is adorned with a massive green emerald positioned on her forehead. The champion’s wings are completely different compared to her outfit. They have gently curved pink edges and green/blue feathers. Her sword has a brown hilt and orange/pink blade.

Transcended Kayle

Price: 975

Skin Lore

Kayle has exceeded her humanity, taking her mother’s spot as the Divine Justice. While she always remembers her origins, she also understands that humanity is something she left behind long ago, in some other life.

Appearance and Model

An interesting thing about this skin is that Kayle wields a sword similar to that of Tyrael from the Diablo series. It is a weapon with a wide golden hilt that has a sun emblem instead of a guard. The blade combines brown and orange colors.

Kayle has long brown boots. Her thighs are naked, and she has a massive golden armor that covers only her torso. The champion has red sleeves and golden arm guards. Her wings are gold around bones with long white feathers. Unlike previous cosmetics, Transcended Kayle doesn’t have a helmet. You can now see her luscious white hair, pointy ears, and bright orange eyes.

  • The cosmetic looks pretty clean and simplistic.
  • Completely different from previous cosmetics.

Judgment Kayle

Price: Limited distribution.

Skin Lore

People who commit heinous crimes have to face Kayle, an entity that sees everything. Kayle brings sentence upon the accused souls, and only a handful of them will be set free.

Appearance and Model

You can only get Judgement Kayle if you played a certain number of games during the 2011 season. The champion looks pretty ominous, combining dark green, deep purple, dark blue, and silver.

She wears solid green boots and scaly leggings. The area around her hips is protected with numerous spikes, which can also be spotted on her left shoulder and left wrist. Overall, her armor has numerous intricate details and is made from various smaller parts.

Kayle’s face is hidden behind a morbid green helmet. She also wears a purple hood that covers the sides of her face. The righteous has large silver/white wings and a silver/black sword with a citrine that looks like a small Eye of Sauron.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Radiant Blast utilizes a green/blue color and has a different shape compared to the base effect. Celestial Blessing utilizes the same color. The same can be said for Starfire Spellblade and Divine Judgement.

Animations

The champion’s basic strikes leave an ominous green/blue trail.

Pros

  • The outfit is really nice, for the most part.

Cons

  • I don’t like the helmet and the hood.

Battleborn Kayle

Image from Fandom

Price:975

Skin Lore

Kayle can be fearsome in war as she is gentle during times of peace. She adorns her face with warrior colors, warning anyone that she isn’t to be trifled with.

Appearance and Model

This cosmetic is a part of the Woad set alongside Woad Scout Quinn, Woad Ashe, Exiled Morgana, and Woad King Darius. In many ways, the champion looks like Valkyrie from Norse mythology.

The Righteous has brown fur boots and leggings. Her left leg is covered in metallic plating, looking rather futuristic. Kayle fashions a blue scarf around her waist while bulky fur armor covers her torso. The champion has a blue metallic breastplate with golden elements.

Her shoulders are also protected with strong metallic plates that have fur edges. She has brown leather arm guards and metal joint guards. The champion’s forehead and sides of the head are guarded with a metallic winged helmet. Kayle has gray wings with runes and a great golden sword with sapphire.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Radiant Blast uses a shiny light blue color for the projectile. This projectile appears from a light blue portal that is slightly different compared to the basic effect. Celestial Blessing utilizes a similar light blue color with a hint of yellow.

Then the Righteous activates Starfire Spellblade, her sword gains a unique blue color. Upon striking, the champion releases a projectile of similar shade. The same goes for her ultimate. Upon gaining levels, Kayle gets additional wings with radiant blue color. The visual effect is also applied to her weapons.

Animations

The champion’s auto-attacks create a light blue splashing effect.

Pros

  • The visual effects for the sword and wings are pretty good.

Cons

  • I’m not a big fan of this skin. There are much better options out there.

Aether Wing Kayle

Image from Fandom

Price: 1,820

Skin Lore

Kayle is the assigned pilot for a high-tech combat exosuit. She imposes justice as a member of the Royal Space Military throughout dangerous parts of the universe. Although her primary role is to maintain the balance of power, over the years, she has become cold-hearted. Kayle no longer negotiates with wrongdoers, nor does she care to bring them to justice. She makes quick decisions on the spot eliminating all the transgressors.

Appearance and Model

This particular cosmetic is a part of Steel Valkyries set alongside Gun Goddess Miss Fortune, Admiral Glasc, Bullet Angel Kai’Sa, and Blade Mistress Morgana. The cosmetic is a reference to Uriel from Darksiders.

The skin looks really futuristic. Instead of her normal wings, Kayle has a golden metallic structure. The champion adorns golden leg plates and boots. Her exosuit combines purple and maroon, practically covering the whole body. The Righteous has a golden plate around her chest with a blue power core, as well as golden armguards. Her large sword has a golden center and hilt with a crystal blue blade.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Radiant Blast sends a blue/yellow projectile towards the target. There is also a sci-fi sound accompanying the ability. When casting Celestial Blessing, three circles surround both Kayle and her target. Starfire Spellblade engulfs her sword in radiant blue color. When she uses the spell, it casts a large triangular projectile toward an opponent.

Divine Judgement has a very cool visual. Kayle ascends to the air and summons a futuristic bubble around her. A plethora of blue swords subsequently hit the ground. As the champion gains levels, her wings turn yellow, and the blade receives a gentle blue glow. The next upgrade adds more wings, also changing the character’s base colors into much darker shades.

Animations

Kayle received a few new, cool emotes. During Recall, her wings transform into a jet pack, which she uses to fly back to base. The champion’s basic attacks create a blue shattering splash at the point of impact and leave a straight edge trail after swings.

Pros

  • The visual effects are awesome and are especially impactful as the champion gains levels.
  • The combination of blue and yellow is pretty awesome.

Cons

  • No complaints.

Riot Kayle

Image from Fandom

Price: 975

Skin Lore

You can get this skin only if you participated during the 2014 Riot event or met one of the company staff members.

Appearance and Model

This cosmetic is a part of the Riot collection that also features Riot Squad Singed, Riot Graves, Riot Blitzcrank, Riot K-9 Nasus, and Riot Girl Tristana. Besides attending the events in 2014, you could also get this skin for 10 years anniversary.

The champion has a dark theme, and she reminds me a lot of RoboCop. She has a black outfit with numerous plating. Kayle has extra leg reinforcement, knee, and hip pads, body armor, bulky shoulder plates, and arm guards.

The Righteous serves the law, which you can notice by the bad on her left collarbone. She has a gray helmet with an orange visor and a side antenna for communication. Kayle has grand mechanical wings with flying turbines and a massive sword with a blue crystal on it.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Radiant Blast creates a light blue projectile, while Celestial Blessing envelops ally and Kayle with blue particles. Starfire Spellblade has quite a peculiar sound effect turning her sword blue and sending an electric blast towards an opponent.

Her ultimate has a very similar effect as the default spell, with the main difference being that this one is dark blue. As the champion gains levels, she will remove the helmet, revealing her blonde hair. Kayle wears cool sunglasses. At the next level of passive, her wings become pink, and she starts wielding two glowing swords.

Animations

During Recall, the champion kneels and is soon surrounded by a police drone. After that, she is sent to the fountain. Her basic slashes leave blue trails and blue splash at the point of impact. They also have a blunt sound effect, as if she’s hitting an opponent with a hammer.

Pros

  • I love the cop theme.
  • The sunglasses are an especially cool detail.

Cons

  • I would love some additional effects with a level increase.

Iron Inquisitor Kayle

Image from Fandom

Price: 750

Skin Lore

Only those who could stand against the darkness could be named Inquisitors. Kayle was at the forefront of the order; her conviction was the strongest among all the disciples. Unfortunately, the malice was so great that it would envelop all of the champions who would eventually turn against the Inquisitor order.

Appearance and Model

The skin is a part of the Omen of the Dark collection together with Undertaker Yorick, Grey Warwick, Cursed Revenant Nocturne, Black Scourge Singed, Spectral Fiddlesticks, Blade Queen Lissandra, and Executioner Mundo. It is probably a reference to the Dark Souls franchise.

I really like this particular cosmetic. The majority of Kayle’s outfit is ash blue with lots of gold details. The champion wears a gold lantern at her left hip and has beautiful red feather pauldrons. Another incredible detail is the mask on her face; it is pale white, and you can see red tears dripping from her eyes.

Kayle wields a full-gold long sword with a red ruby. She also has dark wings with a bit of gold on them.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Base effects

Animations

Base animations

Pros

  • The outfit’s color combinations are awesome.
  • The mask, in particular, is awesome.

Cons

  • Lacks visual and sound effects. The cosmetic could’ve been utilized for something awesome.

Pentakill Kayle

Image from Fandom

Price: 1,350

Skin Lore

PENTAKILL was in dire straits. For the longest time, the band was unsuccessfully looking for a vocalist. Lo and behold, an angel fell from the heavens, took the mic, and started performing all their best hits.

Appearance and Model

Pentakill Kayle is a part of PENTAKILL set. The other members of the band are Pentakill Sona, Pentakill Olaf, Pentakill Yorick, Pentakill Karthus, and Pentakill Mordekaiser. If you check the cosmetic’s background, you will notice that all other members are there.

Kayle is a great embodiment of heavy metal. The champion wears characteristic black boots and ripped black jeans. The Righteous wears a chain at the right hip and has a black leather belt common for metal performers. Her belly is naked, as she wears a short, tight black shirt with a logo. Kayle also fashions two spiked bands on her wrists.

The champion has short black hair with blonde strands. She has a gray sword that looks like something from a metal video. Her wings are, for the most part, black with some metallic gray parts.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Radiant Blast creates a fiery portal from which a large fireball emerges. When using Celestial Blessing, both Kayle and her target will be briefly surrounded by sparks. A Pentakill logo appears above her head, and all of that is followed by metal riffs. During Starfire Spellblade, the champion’s sword turns to fire, and she casts a smaller, red spell.

At level 6, the champion’s wings become red. Divine Judgement summons a red ring in a wide area with Pentakill emblems on its edges. Kayle throws a plethora of swords into the ground. During her next transformation, the Righteous gains blonde hair and additional wing, which turn back to their original color.

Animations

During Recall, a metallic, spiked podium appears beneath the champion’s feet. She starts headbanging while holding a sword. Meanwhile, red flames start protruding from the ground. Her basic attacks leave a wide fiery trail with sparks at the point of a hit.

Pros

  • The fire effects are pretty dope.
  • I like the overall heavy theme.

Cons

  • It somehow feels simplistic.

PsyOps Kayle

Image from Fandom

Price: 1,350

Skin Lore

For many people, Kayle looks like an angel sent forth to punish the wicked. She believes herself to be a savior and relies on psionic powers to boost her strength in combat. The champion sees the world as either white or black, which affects all her decisions.

Appearance and Model

The champion is a member of the Black Rose Group alongside PsyOps Zed, PsyOps Pyke, PsyOps Viktor, and PsyOps Samira. The cosmetic comes in sapphire, turquoise, tanzanite, hunter, emerald, ruby, rose quartz, and sandstone.

Kayle wears a dark blue/black jumpsuit that covers her whole body except for her fingers. She has two holsters with guns on her hips. Her chest is protected by a strong metal plate, and she has a jacket with a hood. Kayle’s shoulders are also protected, and the same goes for her arms.

The champion wears an ominous gas mask with a metallic blue visor. The Righteous wields a long dark sword that looks like something from sci-fi movies. Although the whole cosmetic looks pretty good, her wings are the highlight. Instead of feathers, she has two white metallic plates, and instead of bones, she has black structures with orange edges.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Radiant Blast sends a massive purple crystal towards an enemy. When she casts Celestial Blessing, prismatic spirals encircle both Kayle and her ally. Starfire Spellblade creates a large blue circle under her feet, after which she casts a blue projectile towards the enemy.

Upon reaching level 6, the champion gains 2 additional wings, and her blade turns purple. Divine Judgement creates a purple circle, after which a hailstorm of rainbow-colored effects hits the ground. At level 11, Kayle takes off her mask and gains two additional wings. Upon casting abilities, her wings gain prismatic yellow color. All her spells now have more intense colors and effects.

Animations

During Recall cast, the champion performs a salute during which she is enveloped by rainbow colors. Her sword leaves a rainbow-colored effect in its wake.

Pros

  • The transitions through levels are impressive.
  • One of the best wings for the champion (if not the best).

Cons

  • No complaints.

Dragonslayer Kayle

Image from Fandom

Price: 1,350

Skin Lore

Unlike most other dragonslayers, Kayle isn’t looking for revenge upon a specific dragon. She wants to their all of them! Returning to action after a long hiatus, every single kill makes her more and more similar to the very creatures she is trying to exterminate.

Appearance and Model

This skin is a part of Dragon World together with cosmetics such as Dragonslayer Olaf, Dragon Master Swain, Dragon Trainer Heimerdinger, Dragon Guardian Galio, Dragonslayer Diana, Dragonslayer Braum, Dragonslayer Xin Zhao, Dragonslayer Pantheon, Dragon Oracle Udyr, Dragon Trainer Tristana, and many more. The chroma comes in tanzanite, sapphire, obsidian, citrine, pearl, emerald, ruby, and rose quartz.

In many ways, Dragonslayer Kayle looks more like a demon than an actual humanoid. Instead of the usual footwear, she has elongated black claws. Her hands look as if engulfed in fire (or made from fire), and she has two fiery horns on top of her head. The champion also has menacing orange eyes that look very sinister with the surrounding black shade.

The champion’s armor goes well with the overall theme. She has dark green leggings with a few bronze details. A scaly armor covers her torso and hips, with a beautiful ruby on top of her chest. The champion wears furry white pauldrons and has massive leathery wings that resemble that of a dragon.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Radiant Blast sends forth a fiery projective towards an enemy. Upon activating Celestial Blessing, Kayle and her ally are enveloped in green healing light. There are also small embers around her. When the Starfire Spellblade buff is active, the champion’s sword is engulfed in flames. Using the spell casts a fiery spear at an enemy.

At level 6, the Righteous grows two new wings that look like tails. Divine Judgement creates a red/orange shield around the champion. After that, the ground is struck by numerous fiery swords. The level 11 transformation looks even more menacing. The champion becomes completely red/black gaining additional wings. Furthermore, her abilities and basic attacks look much more impactful.

Animations

During Recall, a ghostly dragon head appears close to Kayle. After splitting it open, she is consumed by the spirit of the dragon transforming in the process and being subsequently teleported back to base. As you can presume, her basic strikes leave an orange/black mark, resembling fire.

Pros

  • She really looks like a dragon.
  • Fiery effects are pretty dope.

Cons

  • The white pauldrons don’t make any sense.
