Jax Skins Guide

Jax, Grandmaster at Arms, is a fighter who becomes more potent the longer he engages an enemy. Consecutive basic strikes increase his attack speed, and he has a plethora of defensive abilities to help him survive at the frontline.

Although his spells are rather straightforward, you have to master the timings to get the most out of the champion. You can build Jax as a hybrid or an AD, which gives an extra layer of fun to the character.

Key Info Up Front

Jax has 14 cosmetics if we include the default skin. Most of them revolve around oriental warrior themes, but you also have a few silly ones, such as the Mighty Jax or Angler Jax. One thing specific about Jax’s skin is that they make him look pretty badass.

Original Jax

Jax Original

Skin Lore

It took years of practice for Jax to hone his skills. Wielding a powerful relic weapon, he is the last champion of Icathia. After unleashing the Void, the majority of his homeland perished. Jax and other survivors have sworn to protect the remnants of this ancient civilization. As the dark forces rise once again, Jax searches for Valorian champions who would help him stave off the threat.

Appearance and Model

Jax’s clothes drew inspiration from The Legend of Zelda. To be precise, this is something that Garo wore in Majora’s Mask.

Although we cannot see the champion’s face, the three fingers on his blue hands indicate that Jax isn’t human. He wears traditional Japanese clothing, which consists of purple/turquoise kimono and light sandals. The champion has a black belt around his waist with a round symbol in the center.

You can notice the same symbol on his back, on the worn-out cape. Grandmaster at Arms has a purple hoodie with light blue eyes protruding beneath it. Lastly, he fashions a samurai hairstyle. Although the majority of his outfit looks normal, his weapon definitely stands out: a staff with a bright yellow lantern on top of it.

Pros

  • Solid color combinations.
  • The hoodie gives him an aura of mystery.

Cons

  • Not sure if his weapon is good or bad.

Vandal Jax

Skin Lore

Feared by many wasteland clans, Jax punishes everyone he meets with a massive wooden plank riddled with nails. As you can presume, this leaves quite a nasty scene.

Appearance and Model

Vandal Jax is a part of the Vandal collection together with Twitch, Vladimir, Gragas, and Brand. His outfit is pretty much the same as the base model, but with some changes to colors. The kimono is bright blue, with lots of yellow elements, dots, and circles. He wears red tabi, and you can see some other red details on the garment’s lower parts.

Instead of the lantern staff, the champion wears a two-by-four plant with nails. Unfortunately, I think that the combination of the plank and his samurai garments look really bad together.

Pros

  • Vivid colors.

Cons

  • The wooden board is a downgrade compared to the base weapon.
  • Board and clothes don’t mesh well.

Appearance and Model

The cosmetic is a part of the Gladiator Era theme alongside Xin Zhao Viscero and Draven Gladiator.

This skin makes much more sense compared to the previous one. Jax is wearing a gladiator outfit that combines various colors but focuses on red and blue. The champion has a long red skirt, blue shirt, sandals, sturdy gladiator helmet, and reinforced arm guard with a pauldron.

Finally, the designers gave Jax something that could be called an actual weapon. He wields a halberd which, although not a Roman weapon, still beats other things they previously gave him.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

The champion has a few new voice lines.

Pros

  • Finally, a cosmetic that makes sense.

Cons

  • It could’ve used a more authentic weapon.
  • Too expensive for what it provides.

PAX Jax

PAX Jax

Price: Code redemption

Skin Lore

It was given during Pax Prime 2010, Pax East 2010, and Pax East 2011.

Appearance and Model

PAX Jax is finally a cosmetic that makes sense. It is neat and polished, although it doesn’t have too many details. Jax wears his standard robe that is, for the most part, yellow. The clothing also has a few orange sections and a green outline. A cool thing about it is that it has a green Pac-Man symbol on the back.

Grandmaster at Arms has traditional sandals, and both of his hands are wrapped up. We still cannot see his face, and there is a large straw hat on top of his head. I’m really glad that the designers finally added a weapon that goes well with the cosmetic. Jax wields a bamboo stick that looks really great when using abilities and basic strikes.

Pros

  • All the parts go well with each other.

  • I appreciate the Pac-Man reference.

Cons

The Mighty Jax

The Mighty Jax

Price: 520

Skin Lore

Jax is one of the greatest talents ever on the ice rink. His enormous prowess with a stick allows him to dispose of enemies in one swing. Some people say that he was an attorney back in the day, but there is no evidence to support this claim.

Appearance and Model

The Mighty Jax belongs to the Winter Sports collection. The other skins from this set are Fiddlesticks Union Jack, Veigar Curling, Corki Ice Toboggan, Kassadin Festival, Twitch Whistler Village, Amumu Vancouver, and Anivia Team Spirit. All these cosmetics were released during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

As you can presume, Jax wears a standard hockey uniform. However, instead of skates, he wears traditional sandals. His uniform is white with purple patches. There is a circle logo on the front of his jersey, as well as two circles on his shoulders. There are lots of blue doodles on the back of the jersey.

Grandmaster at Arms has a faceguard as well as a long hockey stick. The weapon is purple, with black bottom and top. You might also notice a few blue circles on top of the stick, the same circles that can be seen on his jersey.

Pros

  • I like the combination of white, blue, and purple shades.
  • If you’re looking for a goofy Jax cosmetic, this is the thing for you.

Cons

  • The doodles on the back might seem a bit excessive.

Angler Jax

Angler Jax

Price: 975

Skin Lore

Jax loves to relax by the lane and catch some fish. As soon as he feels a bite, he is quick to react, dragging the poor animal out of the water and slapping it with his stick.

Appearance and Model

The skin is a part of the Day Job theme together with LeBlanc Prestigious, Udyr Black Belt, Zilean Groovy, Heimerdinger Hazmat, Blitzcrank Boom Boom, Tristana Firefighter, Dr. Mundo Corporate Mundo, Janna Forecast, Fizz Fisherman, Draven Primetime, Alistar Matador, Sion Lumberjack, Trundle Lil’ Slugger, Gankplank Sailor.

In many ways, this cosmetic reminds me of PAX Jax because it has a similar yellow outfit. However, the character has a much more green color, and a part of his cape is orange. Instead of the usual tabi or sandals, he is wearing rubber boots, which are necessary for any fisherman.

Jax also wears black gloves, a yellow raincoat, and a yellow rain hat. Instead of a staff, Grandmaster at Arms wields a fishing rod with a large turquoise orb at its tip (probably for slapping fish and enemies alike).

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Base effects

Base animations

Pros

  • Green and yellow work well for this skin.
  • The fishing rod might look silly, but that’s the point.

Cons

  • I would add a few minor details, such as lures, to his outfit.

Temple Jax

Temple Jax

Price: 750

Skin Lore

N/A

Appearance and Model

Temple Jax is the most intricate model so far. He is made to resemble a Buddhist monk, with lots of nice details.

The champion has wide white pants, traditional Chinese shoes, light blue garments with dark blue edges, and a massive brown belt in the front, as well as brown pauldrons. I especially like the symbols on his back. Jax also has a massive brown bead necklace, the same type that Buddhists wear.

To round up this appearance, Grandmaster at Arms wears a wide brown straw hat. Jax destroys his opponents with a two-edged halberd. It is worth noting that this weapon is a tad bit shorter than his usual one.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Base effects

Animations

Base animations

Pros

  • The most complex skin so far.
  • The color combinations are impressive, and so are the symbols on his garment.
  • Belt, hat, and pauldrons add to the theme.

Cons

  • The weapon looks out of place; it is probably the worst part of the cosmetic.

Nemesis Jax

Nemesis Jax

Price: 975

Skin Lore

N/A

Appearance and Model

Nemesis Jax is another really cool skin. One of the things that I liked the most was the weapon. The original cosmetic has Jax wielding a staff with a bulky top. Only a handful of skins convey that; Nemesis Jax is one of them. The champion has an elongated mace with a spikey sphere. It has a nice detail just beneath the sphere, as well as a long marron stick.

As for the outfit, the garment is completely different from anything we’ve seen so far. The champion has curvy black shoes that seem more appropriate for a desert climate. He has a few belts in front, on top of his dark blue robe. Grandmaster at Arms also has dark blue sleeves and brown pauldrons. Lastly, he wears a dark blue scarf which he ties on the back.

Chroma comes in cream, brick, and ember.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Instead of the usual yellow color, his Empower ability has a bright blue/purple effect. When using Counter Strike, the staff whirling effect is basically the same. The thing that is different is the very counterattack visual, which is now much more polished.

Unlike the default Leap Strike, which doesn’t have any particular effects, Nemesis Jax’s staff will turn bright blue/purple during the jump. Grandmaster’s Might creates a similar circular visual as the base ability, but it is now blue instead of yellow. The ability’s passive creates a lightning effect.

Animations

Base animations

Pros

  • A major improvement compared to the base skin.
  • Finally, a heavy blunt weapon.

Cons

  • I don’t like the shoes; they don’t have to curl, in my opinion.

SKT T1 Jax

SKT T1 Jax

Price: 750

Skin Lore

This cosmetic is meant to honor Jax’s SKT T1 performance during World Championship 2013.

Appearance and Model

SKT T1 set features all the champions during the final game: Vayne, Lee Sin, Zyra, Zed, and of course, Jax.

This is a pretty simplistic yet polished cosmetic. Grandmaster at Arms wields a golden staff that has a trophy on the top (the same one given during World Championship 2013). Jax utilizes the team’s black and red colors. He wears large sneakers, black shorts, a red t-shirt with black sides, a dark cape with T1 logon on the back, and dark gray/maroon gloves.

The champion’s headgear is especially cool. He wears a white mask with lots of orange openings, giving the skin a futuristic appearance. Given that he is so cool, Jax wears his hat backward and has a mic for communicating with his team.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Base effects

Animations

Base animations

Pros

  • Clean and polished.
  • The mask is the highlight for me.

Cons

  • Although the trophy on top of the staff is meant to commemorate the team’s victory and the very event, it looks out of whack.

Warden Jax

Warden Jax

Price: 750

Skin Lore

According to Jax, he has been around since the first Protectorate. He thinks that the Rune War was caused by incapable legal bodies that weren’t able to surpass political power.

Appearance and Model

Warden Jax is a part of the Warden series together with Quinn Warden, Nautilus Warden, Gragas Warden, Karma Warden, and Sivir Warden.

The skin is pretty dope. All the elements and colors synergize well with each other, giving Jax quite a menacing appearance. One of the things I like the most is the helmet and visor. Unlike other skins, where helmets have bright lights as if Jax’s eyes are glowing, this one is completely dark and gloomy.

Furthermore, instead of flimsy sandals, Grandmaster at Arms wears sturdy steel greaves. He has blue leggings, a blue garment with a blue belt, and heavy metallic armor covering the majority of the champion’s body. The shoulder plates are especially massive, and there is a golden encirclement around Jax’s head.

Golden bracelets are also neat, as is a blue cape on his back. For the most part, his helmet is made of gold, and you can see strands of blue hair protruding from its top. Even the weapon has a solid design; the sturdy staff ends with a bulky golden top.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Base effects

Animations

Base animations

Pros

  • The most intimidating of all Jax’s skins.
  • The helmet is amazing, as well as the reinforcement around the neck.

Cons

  • No complaints.

God Staff Jax

God Staff Jax

Price: 1,350

Skin Lore

Jax is an ancient earth’s protector who, for the longest time, tried to unlock the secret of the God Staff. As he was closing to death, Jax finally managed to find the renowned weapon, which gave him immortality and even greater power.

Appearance and Model

The item is part of the Immortal Journey set that also features Nami Splendid Staff, Janna Sacred Sword, Irelia Divine Sword, Master Sword Eternal Sword Yi, Talon Enduring Sword, Morgana Majestic Empress, Fiora Soaring Sword, Lee Sin God First, and Riven Prestige Valiant Sword.

God Staff Jax skin is incredible. It relies on subtle shading to make Jax look as if he’s on fire. The champion wears leather boots, blue pants with the blue fabric falling from the waist down, and a brown belt with a hip bead necklace.

As for the torso, he has sturdy white/gold armor with intricate patterns. As the golden color spills onto his arms, the armor’s color transitions into dark orange and then orange. His neck is covered with a large orange scarf, parts of which are falling onto his back. There is a large golden reinforcement around his neck which, together with a scarf, conceals his true identity.

A golden, feathery mask covers the upper areas of his face. Unlike most other skin, you can actually see Jax’s bright blue eyes. The champion has white hair, which is pulled back into a ponytail. His weapon looks like a long scepter with a fiery cylinder on the top (it reminds me of the stick from the American Gladiators show).

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Grandmaster’s Might proc creates an effect as if Jax burned the ground under the enemy’s feet. Activation of the same ability creates orange interrupted circles around the champion. Leap Strike creates a massive pink/orange effect on top of a target. When the champion uses Empower, his weapon will glow bright yellow.

When Grandmaster at Arms activates Counter Strike, he will start rotating staff above his head, creating large orange cyclones. Upon triggering, Jax performs a massive circular attack that once again leaves an orange effect.

Animations

When using Recall, Jax performs a staff dance. At its end, he will stick the weapon into the ground, grow additional hands (reminiscent of Asura from Asura’s Wrath), and will be teleported away to the base. His basic attacks create a large orange splash around a target.

Pros

  • Amazing effects and outfit.
  • Nice shading and lots of small details.

Cons

  • No complaints.

Mecha Kingdoms Jax

Mecha Kingdoms Jax

Price: 1,820

Skin Lore

As one of the best weapon masters in the country, Jax is always looking for a weapon upgrade and a brawl worthy of his skills. When Avalon was presented to Jax, he quickly embraced it as something he had never seen before. The champion finally has the weapons and armor worthy of his skill level. Now, his hands are itching for the upcoming leviathan onslaught.

Appearance and Model

The skin is part of Mecha Kingdoms collections alongside Garen Mecha Kingdoms, Draven Mecha Kingdoms, Sett Mecha Kingdoms, Leona Mecha Kingdoms, and Garen Prestige Mecha Kingdoms.

Like all other cosmetics from this set, it puts Jax into a mech. The skin looks like an armored samurai, with lots of minor details. He has a metallic exoskeleton with a steel skirt. Mech’s mid-section is red and black, and he has a lion’s head on his chest.

The mech has yellow arm guards and wide yellow shoulder plates. Although his hat might look funky, it goes well with the cosmetic. Similar to other skins, you can’t see Jax’s eyes but instead, just orange lights.

In my honest opinion, this is the best weapon out of all Jax cosmetics. It is a long metallic staff that has an orange blade on the bottom and a cylindrical turbine (let’s call it like that) on the top side. The turbine is encircled by orange spiraling metal that adds to its bulkiness but also visual appeal.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

The champion’s voice is completely altered, now sounding deeper, robotic.

Leap Strike creates a light blue effect behind the hero, followed by an orange effect upon weapon strike. As the champion gains attack speed through Relentless Assault, a turbine on his back starts glowing bright blue. When you press Empower, the turbine on top of his staff will start rotating quickly.

Counter Strike creates an orange visual effect on the ground as Grandmaster at Arms swings his staff. Once the counter activates, he slams the weapon into the ground creating a fiery visual. When he activates Grandmaster’s Might, an octagonal bubble will form around the champion. Every third strike with Grandmaster’s Might creates a lightning effect on the ground.

Animations

The cosmetic adds a few cool emotes, including Jax boiling a chicken and brief swordplay. During Recall, Jax performs a series of swings, after which the wings on his armor spread, followed by activation of the propulsion pack. When using Ghost summoner spell, he will jet around the field followed by four metallic birds. His basic strikes create a wide orange swing.

Pros

  • A very impressive skin with new emotes and effects.
  • The transition from orange to blue effect is seamless; propulsion visuals are very well done.
  • Probably the best Jax weapon skin.

Cons

  • No complaints.

Conqueror Jax

Conqueror Jax

Price: 1,350

Skin Lore

Created to pay homage to MSI 2021.

Appearance and Model

This particular cosmetic is a part of the Conqueror series together with Varus Conqueror, Nautilus Conqueror, Alistar Conqueror, Karma Conqueror, and Jax Prestige Conqueror.

The combination of radiant green and dark shades makes Jax look like an evil sorcerer. The champion wears strong boots with frontal buckles and green pieces. His pants are rather dark, with green belts holding them in place.

Grandmaster at Arms’ shirt is made from two pieces: a white undershirt and a dark purple/green cover on the top. Jax wears sturdy armor on his torso held together with blue belts. He also has futuristic purple power gloves with a green energy source.

Despite the cool clothes, the thing that gives the skin its charm is the helmet. The purple material completely covers his head, and there is a bronze reinforcement protecting his forehead. Instead of a face, you can only see the dark cover and green teeth around it.

Jax’s cape is also cool. It is narrow on the top, getting wider as it goes down. It is mainly gray and black but also has three green stripes that give it a bit of pizzazz. The champion’s staff looks more like a mage’s staff than a warrior’s. It has a large green crystal on the top, while the rest of it is dark purple.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

Grandmaster’s Might proc creates a green ground crevasse. Activating the spell creates a luminous green bubble around Jax. During Leap Strike, the champion’s body briefly turns green, and his staff leaves two green stripes in its wake. Upon impact, it makes a purple globe effect. Similarly, Empower makes the tip of his weapon green, and once you strike with it, there is a green lightning effect on the target opponent.

While Counter Strike is active, the champion swirls the staff around his axis. It reminds me a bit of vertigo visual. If struck for the duration, Jax releases a massive green circle around him.

Animations

During Recall, Jax opens a green portal. A championship trophy passes through it, and once Jax gets ahold of it, he is being transported home. Basic strikes create a green splash effect around the point of impact.

Pros

  • The helmet looks really amazing so do the weapon and the cape.
  • Color combinations and effects are pretty sleek.

Cons

  • His staff reminds me of a wizard’s staff, but it isn’t a big issue.

Prestige Conqueror Jax

Prestige Conqueror Jax

Price: 100 Prestige points.

Skin Lore

Created to pay homage to MSI 2021.

Appearance and Model

Unlike most other Prestige skins, this one is very different from its original.

The cosmetic focuses on lighter nuances. For example, his top and helmet are dominated by white color. The champion wears green boots, gray trousers, and armor and has a green belt with a golden pin. There is a large golden emblem on his chest, which makes Jax look like a superhero.

Grandmaster at Arms wears dark gloves and an interesting white helmet. Perhaps the most interesting detail about this piece of equipment is the green tubes coming out of the back of his head. The staff resembles a trident. It has a white handle that slowly turns into gold. After the golden element, there are white and green crystals at the top.

Visual Effects (VFX) and Sound Effects (SFX)

For the most part, Conqueror Jax and Prestige Conqueror Jax have the same effects. The main difference is that the prestige variant focuses on yellow with bits of green. For example, his Leap Strike creates a yellow trail with a yellow/green visual at the point of impact.

Empower also has a yellow glow, but it looks a bit different compared to the Conqueror Jax variant (among others, because it uses a different weapon). Grandmaster’s Might active has the most differences. It creates a yellow bubble around the champion, with an internal green bubble.

Animations

The champion has a very similar Recall effect. His basic attacks combine yellow and green leaving a circular visual at the point of impact.

Pros

  • Although it’s not a blunt weapon, Jax’s trident is still very cool.
  • He looks like a hero with this new outfit.

Cons

  • Nothing to dislike.
